Girl in Mask

Girl in Mask presents the masked head and shoulder of a girl. It suggests the impossibility of universal identity meanwhile cultivating anonymity. The hidden identity and coldness of the ceramic mask also imply the indifference of human beings. It explores physicality and identity with the reference of an ahistorical perspective to the colony's culture. The mask mimics a false fantasy of exoticisation or fetishisation. The implication of the postcolonial history of my hometown seems to be imagined in the wrong context, revealing an ahistorical perspective in contemporary culture.
